East Side Ride Recap and Photoset

36

Yesterday morning we set off on the East Side Ride. Roughly 83km of fixed gear fun, and a lots of climbing. The forecast leading up to the ride was not looking promising at all, thunderstorms, heavy rain and cool. As a result, along with a couple of last minute unforeseen mishaps, it ended up being two of us riding but never the less it was a great ride and a lot of fun.

Doug of FixedToronto and myself set off from the Ex’s Princes’ Gates at 8am and headed east on a route neither of us had ever ridden. The roads were wet but the rain was holding off and as we continued east the sun decided to come out which made for a great ride out. Our first stop on the ride was the Scarborough Bluffs. The ride down to the Bluff’s was incredible, 1.25km of hill bombing. The ride back up… yeah not so much. At the bottom of the Bluffs we stopped to take some photos as neither of us had ever been there before and have a quick drink before we set off to the mouth of the Rouge River.

The ride was a lot hillier than I’d expected and was a bit of a departure from what I’m used to.

Almost at the half way point.

Once we reached our half way point, took a bit of a break, watched some fisherman, had a drink and set out on our way home.

On the ride home the weather took a turn for the worse. The winds picked up, the clouds opened up and it just poured. Truthfully the rain was welcomed and refreshing. We road back a slightly different route taking Kingston road a fair bit of the way which was a bit on the bumpy side, almost as bad a Duffrin. After we’d had enough of being kicked around on Kingston we cut down through the beaches and over to Queen. The final Queen, King stretch was a nice mellow city blast trough the pouring rain.

The ride was a lot of fun and it was great to finally meet Doug in person. If you haven’t already check out his new site FixedToronto then head over and check it out.

I’ve got no idea what the next ride will be yet but as soon as I do I’ll post it here. Hopefully the weather will be a bit more cooperative next time than it was this week but it was still a ton of fun and an overall great ride.

Until next time check out the photos and enjoy.
